Privacy Policy

Health Food Home is run by one person: me, Mallory Milne, in Canada. Here’s what happens to your information when you use the site.

The short version: the only thing I ask you for is an email address, and only if you want emails. The tools don’t send your answers anywhere. Nothing you do here, or your personal information, is sold to anyone, ever.

What I collect

Your email address, if you give it to me. There’s a signup on this site for the newsletter and the recovery emails. You type your address in, you get emails, and you can leave any time. That’s the only personal information I ask for.

Whatever you send me. If you email me or use the contact form, I have your message and your address.

Standard web logs and analytics. Like every website, this one records the basics of a visit: rough location, browser and device type, the page you landed on, and where you came from. I use it to see which articles are being read and which are broken. I don’t use it to identify you, and I couldn’t if I wanted to.

What I don’t collect

Nothing you type into the tools. The Recovery Timeline, the Recovery Roadmap, Which Path Am I On, the Appointment Prep builder. All of them run entirely inside your browser. Your surgery date, your ovary status, your symptoms, none of it is sent to a server, stored, or seen by me. Close the tab and it’s gone. The only copy that exists is the one you print.

No payment information. There’s nothing to buy here.

No health records, and no accounts to create.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website leaves in your browser. This site uses them for:

  • Making the site work. Page caching and basic site functions.
  • Analytics. Google Analytics 4, to count visits and see which pages get read.
  • Affiliate tracking. Where an article links to a product, that link may set a cookie so the retailer knows the visit came from here. That’s how the commission gets attributed. The retailer sets that cookie, and their own privacy policy governs it.

Your browser can block or clear all of these, and the site still works without them. There’s no cookie banner here yet, so the analytics cookie loads when you arrive. One is going in: a consent banner run by Complianz, after which nothing beyond the cookies that make the site work will load until you’ve said yes. Until then, blocking it in your browser settings, or with an extension, does the same job.

Emails

If you sign up, you’re saying yes to hearing from me. Specifically:

  • You’ll get the newsletter: new articles and tools as they go up on the site. I’m still working out how often it goes out, and the answer lands here once I’ve settled it.
  • Every email comes from me, with a real mailing address and a one-click unsubscribe at the bottom.
  • Unsubscribing takes effect right away, and within 10 business days at the outside.
  • I don’t send anything you didn’t sign up for, and I don’t add people who didn’t ask.
  • Your address is never sold, rented, traded, or handed to another list.

Canada’s anti-spam law sets those rules: consent before commercial email, clear identification of the sender with a valid mailing address, an unsubscribe that stays live for at least 60 days, and requests processed within 10 business days (CRTC).

Who else touches your information

A few services run parts of this site, and they see what they need to do their job:

  • WPX, the web host, which stores the site and its server logs.
  • MailerLite, which stores the mailing list and sends the emails.
  • Google Analytics 4, which counts visits.

That’s the list. Each one has its own privacy policy, and none of them gets your information for their own marketing. All three keep data on servers outside Canada, in the United States and Europe, which is standard for services like these.

I don’t sell, rent, or trade your information. There’s no version of this site where that changes.

How long things are kept

Your email address stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. Unsubscribes are kept as a suppression record so you don’t accidentally get re-added. Emails you send me stay in my inbox unless you ask me to delete them. Analytics data expires after two months.

Your information, and what you can ask for

Wherever you live, you can ask me to:

  • tell you what I hold about you,
  • correct it,
  • delete it,
  • or send it to you in a file you can keep.

Email hello@healthyfoodhome.com and I’ll do it. There’s no charge, and there’s no form to fill out.

Canadian privacy law gives you the right to see what I hold about you and to have it corrected, and it makes me the person accountable for how it’s handled (PIPEDA). Deletion and a copy of your own data aren’t things Canadian law spells out for a site this size. You can have both anyway, for the asking.

If I handle any of that badly, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Readers in the UK and the EU have equivalent rights under the UK GDPR and the GDPR, and can take a complaint to their own data protection authority.

Security, and its limits

The site runs over HTTPS, the mailing list sits behind a password and two-factor authentication, and the services here have security teams considerably better resourced than me.

What nobody can promise is that no system anywhere ever gets breached. If something involving your information does go wrong here, I’ll tell you and I’ll tell the Privacy Commissioner, which Canadian law requires wherever a breach creates a real risk of significant harm.

Children

This site is written for adult women recovering from surgery. It isn’t aimed at children, and I don’t knowingly collect anything from anyone under 18. If a child’s information has ended up on my list, email me and it’s gone the same day.

Changes to this page

When this policy changes, the date at the bottom changes with it. If a change affects what happens to your information, subscribers get an email about it rather than a quiet edit.
